Our Philosophy

A Collection of Processes

We use an effective approach that is used in computer engineering.

We break down complex problems into smaller manageable processes.

Landing should not be like doing improv.

Flying is just an extension of ground school

Sports coaches teach techniques and strategies in practice, then the athletes execute to the best of their ability & training in games.

Same Habits for any Airplane

Most flight schools use one type of airplane.

We believe in building a set of habits for use in any airplane.

We train different than most

Culture of Consistency

We build professional habits from the very first lesson—habits that scale from light two-seat aircraft to large airplanes.

Consistency builds confidence and safety.

We teach scenario based flying

Just as great coaches and athletes prepare for every scenario they may encounter, we take the same approach in flight instruction.

For example in my initial training we always pretended we were using soft fields.

We train on real grass/dirt so you’re mentally prepared to use it if circumstances ever demand it.

All students learn the same things

We teach foundational commercial and instrument skills to all students at all stages, including pre-solo pilots.

Example: Sport Pilots and Private Pilots will learn chandelles because you never know when you need to pull that 'tool' out of the 'tool box'.

We use Mastery-Based Learning

What is it?

Mastery-based learning also known as competency-based education is an approach where students advance only after demonstrating full mastery of specific skills or knowledge, rather than progressing based on time.

Demonstration of Mastery

Students must prove they have mastered the material/task before moving to the next one.

Example: Initial students must be able to hold altitude and heading before being asked to go on to the new step.

Example: We will do air exercises before doing landing patterns.

Flexible Pacing

Unlike traditional systems, learners move at their own pace, taking as much time as needed.

Example: When we do footwork exercises it does not matter if it takes 15 minutes or an hour. Everyone requires different pacing.

Targeted Learning Outcomes

The exercises are designed around clear, measurable competencies rather than just content coverage.
