Our Philosophy

Creating safe pilots with good habits

We build professional habits from the very first lesson.

Consistency builds confidence and safety.

Mastery vs not dying.

A Collection of Processes

We break down complex problems into smaller manageable processes...just like in computer engineering.

Landing should not be improv....it should be like cooking a recipe.

Flying is just an extension of ground school

Sports coaches teach techniques and strategies in practice, then the athletes execute to the best of their ability & training in games.

Same Habits for any Airplane

Most flight schools use one type of airplane.

We believe in building a set of habits for use in any airplane.

All students learn the same things

We teach foundational commercial and instrument skills to all students at all stages.

Student Pilots will learn chandelles because you never know when you need to pull that 'tool' out of the 'tool box'.

Student Pilots will do practice instrument approaches even though it is not required before solo. I know someone that ended up in thick smoke on a solo trip without training on how to deal with it.

We use Mastery-Based Learning

What is it?

Mastery-based learning also known as competency-based education is an approach where students advance only after demonstrating full mastery of specific skills or knowledge, rather than progressing based on time.

Demonstration of Mastery

Students must prove they have mastered the material/task before moving to the next one.

Flexible Pacing

Unlike traditional systems, learners move at their own pace, taking as much time as needed.

Examples

Initial students must be able to hold altitude and heading before being asked to go on to the new step.

We will do air exercises before doing landing patterns.

When we do footwork exercises it does not matter if it takes 15 minutes or an hour. Everyone requires different pacing.

Landing is a process not improv
